Sjeme(košćice) i listovi marelice su otrovni i mogu biti kobni za konje.

Toksičnost od sjemena i listova marelice uzrokuju simptome koji izazivaju probleme s disanjem, anksioznost, kolike i grčeve.
Otrovna tvar se zove hydrogen cyanide.
